Part of Peter’s job as a cowboy artist is knowing how to handle a horse, and having the right horse for the job. So some of his time is spent preparing his horses for the next shoot. They need to be calm and ready for all of the challenges along the way. Peter photographs from the saddle of his horse a lot of the time. These are pictures of a new horse that Peter is working with getting him ready for things like getting on and off a trailer. It seems pretty straight forward but things can go wrong in no time. Peter has to have his horses at ease with traveling and being steadfast for him as he rides and photographs.

In December Peter photographed at The Silver Spur Ranch in Walden Colorado, at The TO Ranch in Raton New Mexico, and The Tongue River Ranch in Dumont, Texas.

During the month of January 2012 he’s been preparing for upcoming shows as wells as photographing and producing commissioned works for individuals, professional cutting horse competitors and their horses. Peter photographs his subject, produces his own work and colors his work with oil pastels.

Also during the months of December and January Peter was interviewed by writer Paul Canada who will be doing a story on Peter and his art for one of the special publications of “Ranch & Reata” The Journal of The American West. Ranch & Reata is a unique publication, offering western content to be savored. Stories and features focus on the interesting people, places, ways and culture of the West. Look for Peter’s story in the next few months. www.rangerradio.com.

Peter Robbins – Cowboy Artist & Photographer My passion for the wilderness, horses and “the way of the cowboy” go

Peter Robbins – Cowboy Artist & Photographer

My passion for the wilderness, horses and “the way of the cowboy” go back to my earliest memories of our small ranch in Oklahoma. My Dad and Granddad instilled in me a reverence for hard work, the land and the wildlife that sprawled out as far as I could see. I’ll never forget how proud I was when Granddad bought us April, a one-eyed cutting horse we worked cattle with. She was the embodiment of everything mythical and magical about a horse. So between the ranch and a steady diet of the Lone Ranger, the Rifleman and Bonanza I was destined to pursue the romance of the West. more…
